Humor and Disability

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Although there are many perceptions of people with disabilities that are of a negative nature; there isn’t anything about disability or having a disability that is inherently negative.  There are many examples of people with disabilities who, not only enjoy humor, but create it and share it with others.  Examples include Geri Jewell (actress and comedienne), John Calahan (cartoonist), Josh Blue (Last Comic Standing), and many others.  This presentation will highlight various types of humor that focus on disability as well as the humor that people with disabilities have created.  Points made will be based on empirical literature about humor and disability as well as writings by people with disabilities themselves.
